We welcome enquiries from homeowners, families, carers and occupational therapists.
Only work valued at $3,300 or less. This includes labour, materials and GST where applicable. Work requiring a licence regardless of value is excluded.
Small changes that make a difference
Practical help with everyday access
A step at the front door or a lack of support beside the toilet can make familiar routines more difficult. A suitable rail or threshold solution may help, but the equipment, position and fixing method need to suit both the person and the home.
Home Gecko focuses on clearly defined minor installations. Where an occupational therapist has recommended equipment and its location, we can review the proposed work and confirm whether it falls within our scope.

How we can help
Grab rail installation
Install suitable grab rails in bathrooms, beside toilets, in showers and at steps or other recommended support points. The supporting surface and available fixing points are checked before the work is accepted.
Handrail installation
Minor handrail installations beside existing steps, entrances and pathways, subject to suitable supports and an agreed scope. Stair reconstruction and alterations to fall-protection barriers are excluded.
Portable threshold ramps
Help with positioning suitable removable threshold ramps at small changes in level, following the equipment instructions and any OT recommendations. Fixed ramps, constructed ramps and associated structural work are excluded.
Other minor improvements
Depending on the home, equipment and recommended work, we can also help with:
- Handheld shower head replacements. Replace a compatible existing shower head with a suitable handheld option using the existing connection. Changes to taps, pipework or plumbing layout are excluded.
- Slip-resistant strips and grip products. Fit suitable adhesive strips or grip products to selected steps and other small areas, subject to the surface and product instructions. New flooring, tiling and waterproofing are excluded.
- Easier-to-use door handles. Replace suitable conventional internal door handles with lever-style handles or fit compatible handle aids. Tap replacements and alterations to fire or security doors are excluded.
- Minor bathroom accessories. Fit suitable holders, shelves and other recommended accessories within easy reach, where the surface and fixing method are suitable. Bathroom renovations and regulated plumbing work are excluded.
- Lighting aids and visual contrast. Position battery-powered sensor lights and apply suitable contrast markings to help make steps, edges or handles easier to identify. Electrical installation and changes to fixed wiring are excluded.
- Simple access adjustments. Adjust suitable sticking internal doors or existing hardware where a minor repair can make access easier. Doorway widening, structural alterations and fire-door work are excluded.

Help putting your recommendations into practice
If your client needs rails, removable threshold access or another minor home safety improvement, send through the proposed work for review. We will let you know whether it is within scope and what further information is needed.
- Equipment type, size and product details, if specified
- Recommended positions, heights and relevant measurements
- Photographs showing the proposed installation area
- The suburb and a contact person authorised to arrange the work
- Who will approve the quote and arrange payment
Please share client information only with their consent. Initial enquiries do not need medical records or a diagnosis. Clinical assessment and equipment prescription remain with the treating professional.

A straightforward way to arrange the work
1. Show us the area
Send photographs, your suburb and a short description of the installation. Include equipment details and OT recommendations where available.
2. Confirm suitability and scope
We review the information and advise whether a visit is needed to check measurements, fixing surfaces and access. Work outside our scope will be identified before a quote is agreed.
3. Agree the installation
Confirm the equipment, placement, price and any required permissions before work begins. Any proposed change is discussed first.

Common questions
Installation FAQs
Do I need an OT assessment first?
Not every enquiry needs to start with an OT. If you need advice about which equipment would suit a person’s mobility or transfer needs, an occupational therapist is the appropriate starting point.
Can you install a rail I have already bought?
Possibly. Send the product details and photographs of the proposed location. Suitability, fixing requirements and the total value of the work need to be checked, including equipment supplied by you.
Do you build wheelchair access ramps?
Fixed and constructed access ramps are outside the services offered on this page. For those projects, engage an appropriately licensed contractor and check any design or approval requirements. Our threshold service is limited to suitable removable equipment.
Can you change taps or install lighting?
We can help with suitable door handle aids, like-for-like shower head replacements and battery-powered lighting aids as described above. Tap replacements, changes to plumbing connections or pipework, and electrical installation must be arranged with an appropriately licensed tradesperson.
What if I rent my home?
Confirm the property owner’s permission before arranging fixed installations. Body corporate approval may also need to be checked for units or shared areas.
Can you quote from photographs?
Photos help us understand the request. We may still need to inspect the location and confirm suitable fixing points before providing a final quote.
