Flyscreens repaired without the runaround

Damaged flyscreens are often relatively small jobs, but they make a considerable difference to the comfort of your home. Torn mesh lets in mosquitoes and other insects, while bent frames, worn rollers and broken latches can make screen doors frustrating to use.

Home Gecko provides a practical, repair-first service. Where an existing screen can be restored, we’ll explain the available options. If it is missing or beyond repair, we can measure and arrange a made-to-fit replacement.

Honest advice

Repair or replace?

The best option depends on the condition of the mesh, frame and hardware.

Repair may be suitable when
  • The mesh is torn, loose or brittle
  • The frame remains square and solid
  • Rollers, handles or latches are worn
  • The screen needs stronger mesh
  • The sliding door requires adjustment
Replacement may be better when
  • The frame is badly bent or corroded
  • Frame corners repeatedly separate
  • The door no longer fits the opening
  • The original screen is missing
  • Repair would provide poor long-term value

Send us a few photographs and approximate measurements and we can usually advise whether repair or replacement is the best starting point.

Mesh choices

Choose the right mesh for your home

Standard insect mesh

An economical option for typical windows and doors where general insect protection and airflow are the priorities.

Pet-resistant mesh

A heavier, more durable mesh for homes with cats or dogs. It is designed to withstand more contact than standard mesh, although it is not a security product.

Midge mesh

A finer mesh intended to reduce the entry of smaller insects. The finer weave can slightly reduce airflow and visibility, so it may not suit every opening.

Aluminium mesh

Suitable for selected applications where a metal mesh is preferred. Suitability depends on the frame, location and intended use.

Sliding screen doors

Is your door difficult to use?

A sliding screen door that sticks, drags or comes off its track may not need complete replacement. Depending on its condition, we may be able to replace worn rollers, renew damaged mesh, replace handles or latches and adjust the door for smoother operation.

  • Difficult to slide
  • Noisy or seized rollers
  • Comes off its track
  • Torn or loose mesh
  • Broken handle or latch
  • Loose or uneven frame
  • Pet-damaged mesh

Common questions

Flyscreens FAQs

Can you remesh my existing flyscreen?

Usually, provided the frame remains square, solid and suitable for reuse. Photographs will help us assess its condition.

Can you make a new flyscreen if the original is missing?

Conventional window flyscreens can be measured and made to fit many existing window openings. An accurate final measurement will be required before fabrication.

Do you repair sliding flyscreen doors?

Yes. Depending on the door’s condition, repairs may include mesh, rollers, handles, latches and adjustment.

Do you offer pet-resistant mesh?

Yes. Pet-resistant mesh is stronger than standard insect mesh, although it should not be confused with a security-rated screen.

Do you install retractable flyscreens?

Home Gecko currently focuses on conventional fixed window flyscreens and sliding or hinged screen doors. We are not presently installing retractable flyscreen systems.

Are your flyscreens security screens?

No. Conventional insect screens and pet-resistant mesh are not security-rated. Security-screen products are not currently included on this page.

Can you quote from photographs?

Photographs and approximate measurements can often help us provide an initial estimate. Accurate final measurements may still be required before fabricating replacement screens.
